1. Stay out （夜遊びする）

“stay out”は「夜遊びをする」や「夜遅くまで外にいる」を意味します。夜遅くまで友人と遊んだり、パーティーに行ったりなど、帰宅せずに遅くまで出かけているニュアンスがあります。例えば、「昨晩は朝の2時まで遊んでいた」は“I stayed out until 2 AM last night.” と言います。また、一晩中外出して朝まで帰宅しないことを“stay out all night”と言い、「昨晩、私たちは一晩中外で過ごしました」は“We stayed out all night last night.”と言います。

ちなみに、今日の歌詞に“I stay out too late.”という一節がありますが、これは「私は遅くまで夜遊びしている」を意味し、テイラーが周りからそう言われていることを指しています。

2. Cruise （ゆったりしたペースで進む）

“cruise”は状況に応じて様々な意味を持ちますが、基本的には「ゆったりとしたペースでスムーズに進む」ことを意味します。特に特定の目的地を定めずに、景色を楽しみながら車でゆっくりドライブすることを表し、例えば 「私は海岸沿いをゆっくりとドライブしていました」は“I was cruising along the coast.”と言います。

その他、目的地や計画なしに歩き回る意味で使う事もでき、例えば、「今日はダウンタウンをのんびり歩き回りました」は“I cruised around downtown today.”と言います。今日の歌詞にあった“But I keep on cruisin’.”は、周りからどう言われようが自分のペースでゆったり突き進むことを意味します。

ちなみに、“cruise”が名詞で使われる場合はボートや船の「クルージング」を意味し、「クルージングに行きました」は“I went on a cruise.”と言います。
