Today’s news is about a fight between Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Elon Musk criticized Trump on social media and said he had donated a lot of money to support Trump’s 2024 campaign. But now, he says Trump should be removed from his job. Trump responded and threatened to stop giving government money to Musk’s companies. Trump also said that Musk might be angry because he no longer works with the Trump administration. Trump called this problem “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” saying that some people become angry and act differently after leaving his team.

1. Have a falling out （仲たがいする）

“Fall out” means a serious argument or disagreement between people who used to be close, which damages their relationship. It’s often used when friends, family members, or business partners stop getting along. For example, if two best friends have a big argument and stop talking to each other, you can say, “They had a falling out.” In the news clip, “the bitter falling out between President Trump and Elon Musk” means that they used to have a good relationship, but now they’ve had a big fight and are no longer on good terms.

This expression is usually used with the phrase “have a falling out” or in the past tense, “had a falling out.” It’s a common way to describe when a relationship is damaged because of a disagreement. You don’t say “fall out” as a noun by itself; always say “a falling out.”

In boxing, a jab is a quick, light punch. It’s not a strong hit, but it can still hurt or surprise the other person. So when you take a jab at someone with words, it means you say something small but hurtful, like a verbal punch.

It can be used in both serious and joking situations. Imagine someone saying, “Nice haircut. Did you do it yourself?” That could be a jab, especially if said with a teasing tone.

In the news clip, “Musk has been taking jabs at the president” means that Elon Musk has been making negative or critical comments about President Trump, especially on social media.
